Gatsby Postdoctoral Fellowship FAQ
Fellowship Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much interaction should there be between Gatsby and SWC?
The fellowship is intended to bridge the gap between theoretical and experimental neuroscience, therefore maximum interaction between both is encouraged. By having an SWC and a Gatsby supervisor, your role will be to maximise interaction, attending both SWC and Gatsby events and building relationships across both departments.
2. Does the fellowship need to be based at Gatsby/SWC or can it be based elsewhere?
The fellowship should be based at Gatsby/SWC and it should fit with our research vision.
3. Does the fellowship allow me to collaborate with another lab across UCL while still being based at Gatsby/SWC?
While the fellowship might be based at Gatsby/SWC, you are encouraged to build relationships and collaborations with other UCL departments should it be deemed appropriate.
4. Can I spend a period of time in a lab abroad or outside of UCL?
The objective of the fellowship is to build interactions between Gatsby and SWC, therefore most of your time should be spent based here. However, it is possible that you may want to spend time in a lab abroad but this would need approval from your supervisors and a strong case must be made as to why you would need to spend time abroad.
5. When is the latest I can take up the fellowship if I get an offer?
The fellowship must be taken up within one year of an offer. That is, if the fellowship is offered in May 2020, you would have until April 2021 to take up the fellowship.
6. What does the fellowship provide?
The fellowship provides a salary, approximately 3k for travel costs per year, and 15k for research costs including consumables. Equipment costs will be considered on an ad hoc basis and must be reviewed by your supervisors.
